When I do patterns I make them out of duct tape on me then I have a friend cut me out of them. Sounds strange, I know, but it's one of the easiest ways to make a custom pattern for yourself that's 100% correct. I used dance-wear stretchy material for the fabric. Let me know if you need more info or something! 
I kinds just wing things and am a perfectionist, so I try my hardest to make it all work. Half the time, I don't even know how I did it. lol
